Can You Buy Diesel Car Warranty – Age & Mileage Requirements?
New cars , including diesel vehicles, come with a three to five-year manufacturer warranty which covers the cost of repairs after a sudden mechanical or electrical failure. If you still have a internal combustion engine and it’s no longer covered by the original component cover, you could buy extended warranty which covers you for longer.
ALA Insurance offers three different levels of extended warranty cover which are available for (up to 5000cc) petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid cars no matter the value of your vehicle. Choose your level of cover – Silver warranty covers cars up to 16 years and 150,000 miles, Gold warranty covers cars up to 12 years and 100,000 miles, and Platinum waarranty covers cars up to 8 years and 80,000 miles.

Why Should You Consider Extended Warranty?
All cars are prone to sudden faults no matter how well you maintain your motor. However, more expensive repair costs are associated with diesel engines compared to petrol. Moreover, the diminishing popularity of these vehicles could lead to shortages in vehicle parts and rising repair costs.
Diesel engines are known for their reliability and efficiency due to robust construction, higher torque, lower RPM and better combustion efficiency. However, they have more complex fuel systems, diesel has more impurities and without proper maintenance, these engines can break down more frequently than petrol.
An extended warranty helps you avoid an expensive repair if something goes wrong with your car unexpectedly.

Component Cover For Diesel Cars?
Petrol and diesel vehicles share many components but there are crucial differences to be aware of when choosing your policy, the main one being the air compressor (only present in diesels). Other engine components such as injectors, pump and filters can be more prone to issues than petrol engines due to fuel oxidation, impurities or viscosity.
All engine components are covered under a Platinum warranty as long as the other policy conditions are met. Read about the other component systems we cover:
- Engine: including Turbo (as long as factory fitted)
- Casings
- Braking excluding brake pads
- Power Streering & Suspension: Electrics: including ECU
- Front and Rear-Wheel Drive
- Wear & Tear
- Timing Belts & Chains
- Cooling
- Fuel System: including, injectors, throttle housing, MAP sensor.
- Clutch: excluding friction lining
- Drive System
- Catalytic Converter
- Torque Converter
- Working Materials
If the Platinum warranty isn’t suitable for you, Gold Warranty offers generous coverage for a wide range of diesel car parts as long as the other are met. Consider the following fuel system and engine exclusions:

- Overheating (not covered)
- De-coking (not covered)
- Burnt, pitted & sticking valves (not covered)
Silver warranties offer core component cover and are available for older cars with higher mileage. They give you some peace if something crucial fails. However, engine and fuel system coverage doesn’t cover the following to the following parts so bear this in mind if you have a diesel vehicle.
- Covered Engine Components: Cylinder block, cylinder bores and liners, cylinder head, crankshaft, crank bearings, big end bearings, oil pump, con-rods, gudgeon pins, small end bearings, pistons, piston rings, rocker shaft, rockers, hydraulic lifters, camshaft and cam followers, push rods, camshaft bearings, inlet and exhaust valves, valve springs, valve guides, cylinder head gasket, timing gears, timing chains, flywheel or flex plate, starter ring gear. Excludes: Diesel injection pump, high-pressure pump, fuel lines, injectors and some other components – read more about what warranty doesn’t cover.
